How to play

Completed Tapa puzzle
We publish 4 Tapa puzzles every day with a choice of an Easy, Medium, Hard and a bonus mixed puzzle every day!
This is an example of a completed Tapa puzzle. The rules of Tapa are,
  1. Fill some of the empty cells in black to form a singly-connected wall.
  2. 2x2 blocks of black cells are not allowed.
  3. The clues tell you the length of the consecutive blocks of black cells surrounding that cell, i.e. a clue of '4, 2' tells you that this cell is surrounded by 4 consecutive black cells and 2 consecutive black cells. These two consecutive groups of cells must be separated by one or more white cells.

    The 'surrounding' cells of each clue include the diagonal neighbours as well as the cells immediately up, down, left, right.
You can play by left-clicking or tapping (for touch devices) on a cell to change that cell to Black
Clicking/tapping again will turn that cell White.
Clicking/tapping again will turn that cell back to Grey.
This is an example of a starting Tapa puzzle. There are a few clues we can look at and start filling some cells.
In the top-left of this puzzle is a '7' clue with only 7 cells surrounding it (there is 8 in total, but one of them is a clue cell which must always be white). That means all 7 cells must be black. This also fits with the '2 2' clue to it's left.
The '5' clue in the bottom-right also only has 5 neighbours, so we can fill these in black too.
We will now look at the '3 1' clue on the right of this puzzle. The neighbours of this cell are A, B, C, D and E. There are 2 possible combinations for how this clue can be satisfied,
  1. B B B W B
  2. B W B B B
You will notice that some cells are Black for both of these combinations, i.e. cells A, C, and E. We can set these to Black.
There is a similar '3 1' clue at the top of this puzzle that we can apply the same reasoning to.
Also note that there is a '3 1' clue at the bottom of this puzzle with only one way these clues can be satisfied.
We can now conclude that cells A and B must be White - otherwise we'd have a 2x2 group of Black cells.
